Lean Office 101: Focusing on the company goals

Our second meeting was today. We started by covering the company goals for 2011. We want to make sure that we are keeping those in mind when we are taking a 40,000 foot view at how we work. The goal that we focused on was our bottom line. In the end of the day our customers’ satisfaction directly controls the bottom line.
The company goals confirm that we should take a look at AR. Knowing that AR reflects multiple processes, it is important to choose just one to begin with. So, staying with our goal to improve bottom line we agreed to focus on Order Processing. Now on to step two… the Process Map. It turns out that we are much more complex than we think we are. There were so many different variations of the same process. It’s easy to see how difficult it can be to get lean. It’s also easy to see how a process can evolve over time to account for all the different variations. So, as we teach our clients, we decided to focus on one variation at a time…
